Edifice Untethered
A Shadow, cold, grows hungrier for light,
Rotting, stretching through the ages long.
A Will to feed the over-reaching night;
A Need to still raised voices and their song.
The Shade was cast by rage and Hope-less deed.
Rebellious will, engorged by lust of pride,
Stirred the restless hearts that would be freed,
And lured us back to paths already tried.
With fire, clay and straw, men mimicked stone;
Our folly raised an edifice untethered
As if to claim “Our lives will be our own!
We will rebel and forge our Truth together!”
“To Heaven!” was the plan, “To build and gather!”
We left confused, babbling and scattered.
